Running from 28 April to 7 May Derby Film Festival has announced its 2017 line up.
Previously known as IDFEST, Derby Film Festival has been bringing quality cinema and film discussion to Derby since 2010. This year’s ten day programme is panel events, previews, and films on the theme of ‘habitat’.
Highlights include curation by Fantastiq, bringing you the chance to see horror, sci-fi and fantasy classics back on the big screen, as well as a showing of silent classic Phantom of the Opera in Derby Cathedral with live organ accompaniment.
Festival directors Adam Buss and Adam J Marsh have also included a tribute to Sir John Hurt CBE in the programme. A QUAD patron one night of the festival has been dedicated to the actor, including the renaming of Cinema 1 at QUAD to the Sir John Hurt Cinema and a showing of the Oscar nominated The Elephant Man. In an introduction to the festival on its website the directors say, “Earlier this year we lost Sir John Hurt. Sir John was a patron of QUAD and a previous Hero Of Cinema award winner at the first Derby Film Festival and it is only fitting that we pay tribute to one of cinema’s finest actors.”
