Derby independent record label Reckless Yes has been extending its roster again with new signings Dactylion.
The shoegaze band join Pet Crow, Unqualified Nurse Band, Grawl!x and Riding The Low as local bands on the label which is also home to LIINES, Mower, You Want Fox and Bivouac. Set up in early 2016 the label is five releases in and has recently published a novel by co-founder Pete Darrington.
On the signing Sarah Lay, co-founder of the label said, “From the moment we heard a first early bedroom demo from Dactylion we were excited about the prospects of the band and desperate to hear more from them. They haven’t disappointed with this first EP of track – perfect shoegaze reminiscent of Mazzy Star and Slowdive.
“This is a band learning their craft and yet the songwriting and sound, both on record and live, suggests a band with far more experience. We can’t wait to share their first release with you.”
The label is currently the only one in the city and has been gaining exposure for its artists in the mainstream music press and plays on national radio as well as running regular gigs and bringing in touring bands. Gaining a cult following it’s helped Derby’s music scene at home while also boosting the city’s reputation more widely.
Dactylion formed in late 2016 and have been gigging in Derby throughout this year, with their first live appearance at Radar Love in January, while recording tracks at Dubrek. Demo So Easy appeared online earlier this year and we named them as one of our bands to watch in 2017.
You can see Dactylion at the Hairy Dog on 16 June 2017 with Prizefighter when they support The Hudson Super 6 at their EP launch show. Entry is pay what you like and details are here.
