A new exhibition of paintings by Vitor MM Azevedo is open this weekend as Incomplete Start goes on display on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 July 2017.
Azevedo‘s work has been displayed in the city before, and is his style has been described as containing, “Flashes of his homeland Portugal and love of the sea are evident in his choice of bright and bold colours as well as every tone of blue imaginable.”
The Incomplete Start exhibition has been described as, “Vitor MM Azevedo’s work unravels a history of life sequences, describing personal chapters and events that represent significant passages of time and special moments that hang suspended. Like a pebble thrown into still water, these paintings offer a chance to see beneath the surface and visit subconscious thought. Light, breath, warmth and colour contribute to display a visionary index of a personal biography to be shared and enjoyed.”
Azevedo was one of the founders of artist-led gallery Artsmith, which offered a hub for emerging artists in the city from its gallery space on Monk Street. The gallery closed in 2016 and has been seeking new premises since, while Azevedo has continued to exhibite and support other artists work in various venues around the city in the meantime. Most recently his work was displayed as part of the Six Streets Arts Trail.
Incomplete Start takes place at 49 Belper Road, Derby on Friday 21 July 2017 between 7 and 10pm, and Saturday 22 July between noon and 5pm.
