Derby band Replica Jesus has announced the departure of frontman Mat Davies. The band were set to play the additional Derby date at the start of the Lightyear tour but have said all dates for the rest of the year are cancelled following the news.
Davies, who also takes on the role of Malachi J Matthews with Hope Wrestling, has been a striking frontman for the band, giving fouth-wall breaking physical performances to match the energy of the music.
Posting on Facebook the band said, “We are sad to announce that Mat our vocalist is hanging up is microphone (well in a band sense at least) and is leaving the band. The three of us want to wish him well for his future endeavours, it’s been a blast!!!
“Where does this leave Replica Jesus? Well, we’ve still got a shit load of killer riffs and songs we’ve been working on that we’re dying to unleash so… it might a little while and things might be a little different (a new name perhaps) but we will back and blasting again before you know it! Stay tuned, the best is yet to come!!! Cheers!
“Ps. Unfortunately we have had to cancel the remaining bookings for this year including our slot supporting the brilliant Lightyear in October, Really sorry to let folks down but hey its Lightyear! your gonna have a blast with or without us! Enjoy and I’ll see you down the front!”
The band had been working on recording a debut album, mainly in sessions at Snug, over the course of the last year following an EP in 2016. There is no word yet on whether the recordings will see the light of day or remain unreleased as the band regroup following the vocalist’s departure.
Lightyear play at the Hairy Dog on 19 October and 20 October at the start of their UK tour. Details on Facebook here.
