Haiku Salut, the acclaimed dream-pop-post-folk-neo-everything trio from the Derbyshire Dales, will debut new songs and a new live set up at an intimate Derby gig in November.
Held on Friday 17 November 2017 at the Bean Caffe at Friargate Studios in Derby, the show will be a technical dress rehearsal for an array of instruments the band have had imported from the future, which they say, “include a sci-fi glockenspiel and a disco box stolen from a UFO crash site.”
The band will play songs from their forthcoming third album alongside old favourites. They say, “laboratory conditions will be maintained at all times, and audiences are advised that the performance may involve clipboards and minor adjustments. Gaps, and radiation, will be kept to a bare minimum.”
The following month, Haiku Salut embark on a small tour of Christmas lamp shows, including support from White Town on one London date.
The band gathered critical acclaim for their first two albums – Tricolor and Etch and Etch Deep – and have worked on a number of projects including music for a video game, contributions to Public Service Broadcasting‘s recent album and for a soundtrack for a potential play about Ada Lovelace.
Reviewing second 2015 album Etch and Etch Deep Storge editor Sarah Lay said on Louder Than War, “There is a modest, unassuming nature about the tones of Haiku Salut that at once make their albums familiar and surprising. Mostly unencumbered by the distraction of voice, the instrumental electro-pop (‘Baroque-pop-folktronic-neo-classical-something-or-other’ if you’re looking to corner them) sounds are sinuous and organic in feel, shimmering on the periphery as the friendliest ghost in the machine.”
