Grime artist Eyez is set to leave Derby for a tour of Asia and Oceania next month, taking in dates in Australia, New Zealand and Bali.
Tipped as one to watch by UK grime music press Eyez is making a regional mark on what has been a London-centric scene. Talking to Red Bull Music he said, “I want grime to be like hip-hop is in America. In America, you’ve got Texas rappers, New York rappers, New Orleans rappers, all that. In the UK, it’s still a bit like London, Manchester, that’s it. And that needs to change.”
Earlier this year he led the Derby team in Red Bull’s Grime-A-Side to victory and told High Snobiety, “Growing up in Derby was fun, it was hard to get seen in the music scene but everyone was passionate and I think that’s where I got my dedication from.”
He continued, “Being part of the Derby team was sick. Representing the city means a lot to me, so when we won the Redbull G-A-S it was more than just winning. It was more of a statement letting people know that it doesn’t matter where you’re from, anyone can do anything.”
Having played dates across the UK and Europe as well as launched a clothing line and with a growing fanbase online too, he will now head to Australia, New Zealand and Bali in November 2017.
Eyez will play:
- 8 November – Laundry Bar, Melbourne, Australia
- 10 November – Jack Rabbit Slims, Perth, Australia
- 16 November – Moon 1, Wellington, New Zealand
- 17 November – Neck of the Wood, Auckland, New Zealand
- 20 November – Paddys, Bali.
