Derby Theatre is inviting artists who identify as women, transgender, non-binary & genderqueer to come along to Punk Band Project on 20 October 2017.
The project will be a day-long workshop session and is described as, “It’s a space to do something real, very fast. To embrace noise, chaos, angst and joy…There will be time for stumbling, falling over and shyness, but there will be more time for dressing up, shouting and hitting things.”
Those taking part will have the opportunity to form a band for the day based on the ethos of punk, famously summed up by fanzine Sideburns in 1976 in respect of being very DIY and not requiring technical ability or musical virtuosity, just a desire to make music, when they wrote, “This is a chord, this is another, this is a third. Now form a band.”
The workshop runs from 3.30 to 6.30pm on Friday 20 October in the Derby Theatre Studio and will be followed by an open rehearsal where friends and family are welcome to join, between 6.30 and 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 and can be booked through the Derby Theatre website.
