Derby Theatre has announced three £2000 bursaries are available for local artists of colour, with applications open until 28 February 2018.
The bursaries are being offered, secured through Arts Council Sustained Theatre fund and in association with Tamasha Developing Artists and In Good Company, as artists of colour are under-represented in the industry and in Derby Theatre’s pool of artists.
Sarah Brigham, Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Derby Theatre said, “It is fantastic that thanks to the partnership with Tamasha and Arts Council Sustained Theatre funding we are able to offer these bespoke packages which will support the development of culturally diverse artists. We know that we need to get much better at representing artists of colour (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic) in the region and this is one small step towards that goal which will hopefully result in some new fantastic theatre for our audiences.”
Rafia Hussain, Producer at the Theatre said, “As the Producer of this programme, I’m really excited by the prospect of finding new artists of colour from Derby and the surrounding region. I’d ask that anyone out there who has an idea, no matter how small, or who wants to get involved with theatre, but doesn’t know how, to please get in touch with me and I can introduce them to these bursary offers and all the other exciting opportunities we have here at Derby Theatre.”
The bursaries are available to:
- be Assistant Director on any Derby Theatre production
- develop ongoing artistic practice for artists of any theatre discipline from inside the East Midlands
- develop ongoing artistic practice for artists of any theatre discipline from the East or West Midlands.
Applications must be received by 28 February 2018 and more details on how to apply are on the Derby Theatre website here.
