Applications are open to artists wishing to exhibit as part of Wirksworth Festival‘s Art and Architecture Trail, held in the town on the festival’s opening weekend of 8 and 9 September 2018.
A highlight of the East Midlands cultural calendar, the Trail weekend features some 150 artists and designer-makers, both local and from further afield, in over 70 different venues across the town, including private homes, cafes, pubs and public spaces. Held over the Festival’s opening weekend the town is abuzz with from visitors from across the region and beyond enjoying contemporary visual art and craft, street theatre, music and film as well as some good local food and drink as part of the Trail.
The Festival is seeking applications from artists and designer-makers of all disciplines from the local area and further afield. The selection panel look for high quality, engaging and work relevant to the audience and stress they are always keen to see new work and welcome applications from those new to the Festival as well as those that have exhibited before.
Running for 20 years the Festival transforms the historic town and over a fortnight there are a number of performance and fringe events – live music, dance, drama, film and family shows from world-class performers to the very best homegrown talent. During the Art and Architecture Trail Weekend, the entire town becomes a gallery with over 150 artists and designer makers exhibiting and selling their work in more than 70 venues – in homes ranging from charming stone cottages to impressive Georgian townhouses, historic and quirky buildings, gardens, courtyards, shop windows and churches. The Festival concludes with a community event.
