New Derby bands you need for 2017

A four-piece alternative shoegaze band they will play their first gig at Radar Love at the end of January. You can find them on Facebook although they haven’t made any music public just yet. Expect shoegaze style vocals and big guitars, clearly influenced by Slowdive and early Lush.  See them at Radar Love on 26 January with Strange Bones, BlackWater and Black Cats And Magpiesdetails here and find them on Facebook.

We don’t know much about this experimental shoegaze band at all as they’re giving little away online. Citing infuences from My Bloody Valentine to 18th Dye they released a first track on New Year’s Day, A Toast To All Our Ships At Sea, and those influences are clear in the discordant guitar and static-laden and hazy spoken word vocal. Find them on Bandcamp and Facebook.

With squealing guitars and dishevelled rhythms Crimewolf are showing shambolic genius in math rock, no workings given but the right answer all the same. Find their full set from the opening of the D.Filis exhibition at Kunst Gallery in Belper, recorded in December 2016, below. See them at the Hairy Dog on 10 February with Unqualified Nurse Band and Table Scraps – details here. Find them on Facebook.

Sex Jokes

Put together by Shelley-Jane of Mighty Kids this band seem to have some songs in the works but haven’t shared anything online yet. They say they are a ‘noisy, shouty band’ and so we’re hoping to hear some of that ongoing songwriting soon. Find them on Facebook and Twitter in the meantime.

The Four Fours

From the former members of You Slut! comes a new outfit which puts garage rock with pop sensibilities to the forefront. Think QOTSA meets The Clash. Find them on Soundcloud and Twitter.
