Derby independent record label Reckless Yes has signed another local artist as Grawl!x joins the growing roster.
Already home to Unqualified Nurse Band, Pet Crow, Riding The Low, Nottingham’s You Want Fox, and Manchester post-punk trio LIINES the label opened last year releasing the comeback single from Derby alt-rock band Bivouac. Reckless Yes is run by Sarah Lay, editor of this site and music journalist for publications including Louder Than War and Sounds, and Pete Darrington, bassist in The Hudson Super 6 and Cable as well as a writer.
Grawl!x, the solo project of James Machin, is currently two albums in to a trilogy on the theme of grief. He recently played a solo set at the opening of a D.Filis art exhibition, for Reckless Yes at their Six Impossible Things night, and has previously performed in Derby Cathedral with Haiku Salut and Richard J Birkin.
Reckless Yes describe his catalogue and tease with what they will release, “the albums released so far – Good Grief (2015) and Aye! (2016) – have melancholy moments but are far more affirming, even uplifting, soundscapes of love rather than loss. The third and final album in the trilogy is due in winter 2017.”
This track was recorded by Dactylion at the recent Six Impossible Things night at Dubrek.
