New animation short from Holbrook producer Gail Ferriman

Holbrook-based producer Gail Ferriman has released a new short animation, Woman With High Chignon.

The film was animated and directed by the award-winning Minha Kim, based on an original short story by Ferriman. Part of the film’s soundtrack is provided by Hull band The Queen Riots.

Ferriman, who is also a visual artist and jewellery designer, creates art responding to representations of the world today. She uses visual puns and text, political situations and more frivolous frolicking depicted by the media.

The animation shows a young child and father strolling through a park before entering an art gallery full of elongated, shadowy and skeletal sculptures. Once the gallery has closed the sculptures come to life and the pop-punk soundtrack kicks in. With something of the matchstick men of Lowry in the  dark figures there is a naivety, joy and just enough sinister styling to the story.
