Derby Film Festival is looking for people to volunteer to join their team and gain experience while supporting the event, which takes place in the city during May 2018.
Now in its fifth year the celebration of independent cinema will run between 4 and 13 May 2018 and encompasses previews, classic films from the archive, and a weekend of cinema dedicated to film genres beyond the mainstream. This year the festival’s opening four days will be given over to Paracinema Weekend, a brand new festival focused on cult, underground and non-mainstream filmmaking.
Derby QUAD is looking for a volunteers to help in the run up and during the festival, with essential skills including an enthusiasm for cinema and live events, experience in customer facing roles, and an understanding of social media marketing would also be desirable. QUAD say, “this is a unique opportunity to gain insights into how a film festival is run and will enable the volunteer to develop key skills.”
Kate Haresnape, a volunteer at last year’s festival, shared her experience being part of the team on the QUAD website, “Working as a volunteer for the 2017 Derby Film Festival provided valuable experience in learning about what proceedings go into contributing towards putting on an event. I would recommend this opportunity for anyone who is interested in film and/or working in the events industry. I had a great time whilst on the job and for those passionate about independent cinema, it is a valuable experience that is highly useful in adding to any CV or portfolio.”
