The Village hold steady at top of British Folk Rock Chart

When Phil Matthews, aka The Village, wrote his song The Secret Garden in 1983 he could never have dreamt that 35 years later it would be played on radio stations all round the world or make Number 1 in the British Folk Rock Chart, a position it has occupied for 13 weeks so far and counting.

Finding himself a track short for his current album Carnival Of Fools he revisited the song and recorded it as the final track on his album. As Matthews explained, “The Secret Garden was one of a batch of songs I wrote in the early ’80s without really knowing what I wanted to do with it.”

The Secret Garden was picked up by where it quickly rose to the top of the chart replacing another of Phil’s songs Always On Her Mind at the summit. N1M is a music distribution platform with charts compiled based on social sharing activity, rather than sales, streams or downloads as the UK Official Charts are.

Matthews is currently working on a new album while Carnival Of Fools is available from iTunes and other digital platforms.
